  NetSys 210

NetSys 210 Advanced Networks (4) [cross-listed with CS 234]. Design principles of networked systems, advanced routing and congestion control algorithms, network algorithms, network measurement, management, security, Internet economics, and emerging networks. Prerequisite: NetSys 201.

Selected topics, among the following:

  • Design principles of networked systems: end-to-end argument, fate sharing, layered architecture.
  • Advanced routing algorithms: loop-free and fast convergence, policy routing, compact routing.
  • Advanced congestion control algorithms: explicit control, distributed rate control.
  • Network algorithms: how to build fast routers.
  • Network measurement: techniques and data analysis.
  • Network management: trouble shooting, configuration, and traffic engineering.
  • Network security: routing security, denial of service attacks, spam, phishing attacks, and worms.
  • Internet economics: local loops, backbone networks, and congestion pricing.
  • Emerging networks: structured and unstructured peer-to-peer networks, social networks, sensor networks, mobile ad hoc networks, mesh networks, and networks in challenging environments.
